Doon University Faculty among World’s Young Sinologists of 2014

Doon University, which aims to be a centre of academic excellence, added another feather to its cap, when its faculty from School of Languages, Mr. Madhurendra Kumar Jha was invited to be a part of the “Young Sinologists Research Program 2014”. This research program is being jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and is aimed at promoting research activities in areas related to Chinese language, literature and culture.

Mr. Madhurendra Kumar Jha, who is an Assistant Professor in Chinese at Doon University, was selected for this program on the basis of his published articles and translation works in Chinese studies. Mr.Jha will be among the thirty sinologists selected from all over the world attending a three weeks research program in China in July, 2014.

This is not the first time that Doon University has earned international distinction in the field of foreign languages, especially Chinese. In the year 2011, Prof. B.R.Deepak, the then Head of School of Languages was awarded with the highest literary award by the Government of China.

In the four years since the University started Masters programme in Chinese, Doon University has established itself as an important centre of teaching and learning Chinese language, literature and culture. Apart from Chinese, the University is fast emerging as a major centre of teaching and learning Spanish, German and Japanese.
