1. Three Positions of RA and 10 positions of JRF under "National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS)" project

sponsored by MoEF&CC.

2. One RA under DST sponsored project "Documentation of Traditional Knowledge Systems in Garhwal


3. One JRF in GBPHIED-IERP sponsored project "Study on Ecosystem Services in Agro forestry Systems in

Garhwal Himalyas".

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) is implementing the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) through different research institutions/organizations. Doon University has been awarded Research Positions (3 RAs and 10 JRFs) for a period of 3 years (2016-2019).

Doon University is looking for bright candidates from Environmental, Biological, Physical, Social Sciences and the related disciplines for filling up the following positions: Himalayan Research Associate (H-RA) 03 (three) and Himalayan Junior Research Fellows (H-JRF) 10 (ten) for the duration 2016-2019. Applications are invited from Indian citizens who are keenly interested to work for the Himalayan ecosystem and willing to take up field assignments of longer duration in the Himalayan region. The details of the positions are given below.

Research Associate-I (03 positions):

· Existing institutions and regulatory mechanisms strengthened.


Uttarakhand Himalaya

· Survey, Inventory and Assessment of traditional natural resources management practices in the context of Climate change

· Development of adaptation strategies

· Participatory conservation framework developed;

· Sustainable harvesting protocols for diverse natural resources developed;

· Local natural resource management institutions strengthened;

· Good practices documented and up-scaled.


Uttrakhand Himalaya

· Study of outmigration pattern in the State

· Study the factors responsible and solutions

· Recommendations of policy changes for reducing outmigration

· Alternate livelihood options


Junior Research/ Project Fellow (JRF/ JPF : 10 positions):

· Issues for sustainable tourism including eco-tourism

· Changing patterns of tourism

· Ecologically compatible and equitable tourism promoted/implemented leading to stoppage of unregulated tourism.


Haridwar district Uttarakhand

· Waste management, including management of hazardous substances:

· Innovative approaches developed (No) and implemented/Quantity of waste treated/ managed

· Existing institutions and regulatory mechanisms strengthened;

· Up-scaling of best practices supported.


Uttarkashi District Uttarakhand

· Issues concerning development in sensitive areas

· Scientific evidences and databases developed/ augmented/ disseminated.


All districts of Uttarakhand

· Testing options for human capacity building including promotion of micro-enterprises and green technologies

· Identify key sectors and capacity building needs of those having immediate bearing on conservation and livelihoods.

· Natural resource based and community oriented microenterprises developed/ promoted.


Askot wildlife Sanctuary

· Conservation of genetic resources of rare, endemic, threatened and globally significant flora and fauna including agro-biodiversity

· Conservation of endemic/threatened/significant species augmented through ex situ/ in situ mechanisms


Uttarakhand Himalaya

· Use of alien plants extracts for bio-preservation of wood

· Database of alien plants species

· Development of bio-preservatives


Pithoragarh Uttarakhand

· Appraisal to plant diversity and restoration of degraded lands in Pithoragarh district

· A database of plant resources will be available.

· A database of indigenous technologies of plant use


Vikasnagar and Dehradun

· Supplementary livelihood options for local communities and other rural population,

· Study the market linkages

· Recommendations on livelihood options

· Development of market linkage options


Uttarakhand Himalaya

· Effect of forest fires on nutrient dynamics in the soil.

· Database on impact of forest fire

· Policy recommendations


Uttarakhand Himalaya

· Effect of forest fires on soil microbial biomass and diversity.

· Database on impact of forest fire

· Policy recommendations

All engagements are on contractual basis initially for a one year period from the date of appointment that can be extended depending on the candidate’s performance and the programme needs. The selected candidate would be liable to serve at any field location decided by the University as per functional needs. The candidate should be willing to take Field assignments.

^Desirable qualifications are only indicative in nature. In case of exceptional candidates, these may be relaxed.

*Candidates with relevant experience and who have submitted Ph.D thesis and are awaiting results may also be considered, and if found suitable may be given a provisional RA position till the results are communicated.

Age relaxation up to 5 years will be applicable for SC/ST/OBC and Women candidates.

Recruitment process

The selection of Himalayan Research Associates (H-RAs) and Himalayan Junior Research Fellows (H-JRFs) will be through a written test followed by a personal interview. Candidates who have cleared UGC/CSIR NET-JRF will have to appear for the interview only. The written test for the Science candidates will be based on UGC-NET syllabus of Environmental Sciences including questions from relevant discipline. The syllabus for the written test for the candidates from social sciences background will be based on general socio-economic pattern of the Himalayan region including migration pattern, promotion of micro-enterprises, local community development, rural populations and market linkages.

(i) Candidates should submit their application online only till 5th June 2016 by 17:00 hours. The application fee of Rs. 300/- should also be payable online with the application. The website link for NMHS application form will be made available on Doon university website ( since Monday 16-May-2016. Candidates must mention the Project name and Position applied for in their applications. In the application, a candidate must mention his/her priority for the positions as indicated in the table of RA/JRF positions in this advertisement. The "NET" qualified candidate should mention it clearly in the application under the section "Any Other Relevant Information".

(ii) The University shall screen the applications received by due date and organize a written test and interview for the short-listed candidates on 13th – 14th June 2016. The shortlisted candidates will be intimated by e-mail for the written test and interview.

Shortlisted candidates will have to produce original certificates cited in their applications at the time of written test / interview, without which they will be disqualified. Mere fulfillment of the minimum advertised qualification and experience requirement DOES NOT automatically entitle an applicant to be called for written test/interview. The decision of the University in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of application, mode of selection will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained from any individual or his/her agency. At the time of the verification of original documents, if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to willfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, his/her candidature will not be considered and he/she will not be allowed to appear for the interview. Candidates are required to furnish the declaration form as given in the prescribed application.

Call for Scheme (Brief Synopsis)

Aim, Objectives and Scope:

(a). To facilitate the students pursuing the post-graduate/ research in aforesaid disciplines to study and get familiarized with the prevailing;

(b). To familiarize the interested and willing post-graduate/ research students with initiative/ working of IFAD;

(c). To create awareness among the students of Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Operational Research/ Economics/ Demography or any of the related applied field about the State ;


(d) To Sensitize the Students of Business Management/ Statistics/ Operational Research/ Economics or any of the related applied field about choosing their career in the field of Social Enterprises/ Entrepreneurship/ Business at the Bottom of Pyramid.




The Applicant should be a citizen of India and Pursuing his/her post-graduation / research from a recognized college/ University / Research institute in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Operational Research/ Economics/ Business Management/ Mathematics or any of the applied field of Statistics/ Humanities. Priority shall be given to good academic record and higher education criteria.


Duration and Expected output from Intern:

The internship will be for a period of 60 Days in a year. The same could be dissected into the slots of two phases i.e. 30 days in a semester so that the route course/ classes of Intern will not be affected.


Each intern/ Student shall be required to submit report/ paper (along with soft copy) at the end of the assignment, including inter-alia, his/her observations and suggestions, if any, regarding any possible tangible improvement in the system.




A Stipend @ Rs. 400 Per day shall be paid to the selected intern on successful completion of his/ her internship, at the end of internship period. Under Group ‘B’ travelling allowance shall be paid in addition for their visit to the project sites (on per visit per day basis) by Doon University.

There is a provision of Rs. 150 per Day for 200 Days (@ 10 days X 5 Federations per quarter)
