The School of Physical Sciences (SoPS) was established in 2015 with the aim of generation and dissemination of knowledge and building capacities of human resource in the field of natural and applied sciences. The school consists of  four departments:


  • To become a centre of excellence in the field of science to be at par with the international standards.
  • To create and disseminate knowledge through teaching and research in natural and applied sciences.


  • To build foundation for excellence among its students and researchers.
  • To provide a strong platform for research in basic and applied sciences.
  • To cultivate the sense of pioneering spirit and innovative thinking around disciplinary domains.
  • To develop the capacities of students in the areas of science education, research, industrial applications and entrepreneurship

B.Sc. (Hons)/ M.Sc. Integrated Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics / Computer Science 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (Minimum 50 % marks) from a recognized Board of Secondary Education. (45 % for SC/ST from Uttarakhand).
Masters in Physics (with specialization in Opto-electronics) Graduate in Science from a recognized University (established/approved by UGC) with Physics as an elective subject (Minimum 50 % marks, & 45% for SC/ST from Uttarakhand.
Masters in Mathematics Graduate with mathematics as one of the subject (Minimum 50 % marks from a recognized University (established/approved by UGC). (45% for SC/ST from Uttarakhand)
Ph.D. in Chemistry Ph.D. in Physics Ph.D. in Mathematics Masters Degree from a recognized University (established/approved by UGC) with minimum 55% of marks or equivalent OGPA in the respective subject or applied science. The seats are filled through entrance test. Shortlisted candidates after the written test are called for interview. Merit list is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in written test and interview performance. The candidates having qualified JRF examination conducted by UGC/CSIR/ICMR/ DBT or INSPIRE fellowship awarded by DST or having 2 years of research experience or M.Phil./M. Tech. degree in the respective subject with one publication in refereed journal are exempted from appearing in entrance test; however, they are required to appear for Interview.
Ph.D. in Computer Science The admission in PhD program is based on the merit held in the university entrance test followed by an interview. However, the NET(JRF) students are exempted from the written exam. The candidates must have obtained a M.Sc./MCA/M.Phil./M.Tech. from any recognized University, or any degree recognized as equivalent, in Computer Science or in an allied subject.
