Vice Chancellor’s Message
Aiming at becoming a part of global knowledge society, the Doon University is now entering into seventh year with its mandate of providing world class quality education as a Centre of Excellence in academics. We take pride in our dynamic and outstanding faculty, innovative pedagogical practices, state-of-art infrastructure and multi-disciplinary academic programmes at graduate, postgraduate and doctoral level. Nestled in the greens of Shivalik foothills, the university has an inviting ambience for academically committed and passionately creative people.
It is a matter of satisfaction for us that the university has made steady progress in a relatively short period of time in terms of expansion of its physical infrastructure and academic programmes. The university is offering graduate and postgraduate degree programmes in six schools -- School of Communication (SoC), School of Management (SoM) School of Social Sciences (SoSS), School of Languages (SoL) and School of Technology (SoT). At doctoral level, the Ph. D. programmes are being offered in School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR), School of Management (SoM) and School of Communication (SoC). In addition, an M. Phil. Programme in Department of Economics (SoSS) was started last year. As part of our continuous academic expansion plans, we are starting postgraduate programmes in the newly established School of Physical Sciences involving disciplines of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science. A bachelor’s degree programme under School of Design is also being initiated from this year.
With a very modern physical and research infrastructure which has gradually but steadily improved over past few years, the university has well equipped class rooms, state-of-art laboratories and computer facilities. Our sports stadium has facilities for basketball, tennis, volley ball, football and cricket. In addition, well equipped gyms are also available in hostels for both girls and boys. The construction of one more girls’ hostel is in progress and an indoor sports hall with the facility for badminton and squash is under construction.
In recent years, the faculty has been awarded a number of extra-mural research grants by various funding agencies. Last year, School of Environment and Natural Resources was sanctioned Funds for Infrastructure in Science and Technology (FIST) from DST, Government of India. Our faculty has an impressive record of research publication and regularly organizes national and international seminars/conferences showcasing the recent advances in their respective disciplines. Further, the university regularly invites scholars and scientists of eminence to our campus to interact with our students and faculty discussing contemporary national and global issues.
We have a very dedicated and responsive administrative staff headed by our Registrar Dr B M Harbola, Finance Controller Mr B C Tewari and Deputy Registrar Dr M S Mandrawal along with other support staff facilitating academic pursuits.
Committed to promote academic excellence and socially relevant education, the university has made all efforts to meet the national and global standards. In a short span of its existence, the University has been progressively moving towards becoming a Centre of Excellence in the field of higher education.
With best Wishes,
(Prof. V.K. Jain)
